Authorities reported that they have taken several individuals into custody and confiscated a significant amount of heroin in arrests in two Wisconsin counties. Separate searches yielded a total of approximately four ounces of heroin with a street value of between $10,000 and $12,000. Three people arrested at two locations face drug charges after continued investigation into their activities.
The search warrants of the home and hotel room yielded about one ounce of the drug along with cash and paraphernalia. In addition, law enforcement personnel pinpointed a more specific drug source that supplied heroin to the area, which led to a search and seizure of about three ounces of heroin. Two individuals were arrested at a third location in that sting operation. However, police have not yet finished their investigation and still plan to arrest more people.
Drug arrests with the intent to distribute in Wisconsin can result in serious consequences for the offenders. Mandatory sentencing laws might mean a felony conviction with automatic time in prison.
Criminal defense attorneys can help sort out the involvement of each party. They can discuss the case with the defendant to determine their knowledge of the drugs. They will also work with law enforcement personnel and authorities to work out a plea agreement. An attorney could argue for reduced charges, especially for a first-time offender or for someone who needs drug rehabilitation. In other cases, they may be able to convince authorities to dismiss the charges.
